At Just A Lemon (JAL) foundation, we are committed to creating transformative, long-lasting change in Eastern Africa by addressing the critical challenges of water access, energy sustainability, and food security. Founded with the belief that innovation and community collaboration can unlock a better future, JAL works to scale innovative solutions that empower communities, uplift livelihoods, and drive sustainable development.
Our organisation takes its name from the simple yet resilient lemon—a symbol of ingenuity, growth, and the ability to thrive even in the harshest conditions. We aim to embody these values in everything we do.
Our mission is to support and scale cutting-edge projects that combine advanced technology, practical implementation, and community-led strategies to address systemic challenges across the water-energy-food nexus. By empowering communities to access clean water, renewable energy, and sustainable agricultural solutions, we aim to create pathways out of poverty, improve health and well-being, and promote climate resilience.
Supporting novel technologies like water filtration systems and tools for estimating water demand in agriculture to ensure communities have access to clean water for drinking and agriculture.
Driving the adoption of solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources to power irrigation, agricultural processing, and community infrastructure, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy.
Equipping local farmers with tools, training, and technology to maximise yields while practising sustainable farming methods.
We envision a world where clean water is no longer a scarcity but a common resource for all, where communities have reliable access to energy and sufficient food to lead thriving lives. Through our work, we strive to dismantle systemic barriers and build sustainable systems that empower communities to prosper with dignity, resilience, and independence.
At Just A Lemon, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We partner with visionary scientists, local leaders, and community-based organisations to identify and implement solutions that are innovative, practical, and community-driven. Our approach ensures that the communities we serve are active participants in the projects we support, enabling long-term ownership and sustainability.
